About Our Program

Our trained professionals get the students involved during the program with live ambassador animals to teach students about adaptations, habitats, diets and other interesting facts about an array of wildlife. At least 7 species are brought to the school incorporating the mammal, reptile, and Bird Family. From hootin’ owls, cold blooded savannah monitors to colorful flying parrots that swoop right over your head, your students are bound to have an amazing awe-inspiring time.

All students can attend the program for FREE.

In order to fund this program, photo opportunities with certain animals is offered for a fee at the end of each program.

The money generated from the optional pictures helps take care of our ambassador animals including vet bills, feed, and employee care.

We take pride in giving our animals the best most enriching life possible.

About Leslie

Primarily Parrots was founded by Leslie Schindler in early January 2021. Leslie is an avid animal enthusiast who graduated LSU in 2013 with a bachelors degree in Animal Science. The following seven years she co-owned and operated a small family run zoo educating the public about wildlife as well as caring for a menagerie of exotic animals from otters to sloths, and even a striped hyena.

She then parted ways from the zoo and is on her next journey in life focusing on her love of parrots. Though Primarily Parrots does have some mammals, and reptiles we love and adore, our main focus at the facility is parrots. We have over 20 large parrots at our “home base” that live in large natural aviaries. We are also an advocate of “free flight” a process in which a parrot is trained to fly freely and come back to its trainer.
